About#
Who?
miblab is a research group focused on development of medical imaging biomarkers, based within the section of medical imaging at the University of Sheffield (UK), .
We are committed to working in maximal transparency and sharing our resources freely and accessibly - not only the results of our research but also the protocols, data, software and models that we develop along the way.
Why?
We believe that reproducible science is key to the wider uptake of imaging biomarkers in research and clinical practice. And science can only be reproducible if the entire process is open to independent scrutiny - not just the compact summary that we write at the end.
We believe that allowing data and software to be reused by others offers the best value-for-money for funders and taxpayers. It also means we can promise our study participants that we will make the most of the data they so generously donate.
What?
Resources listed on miblab.org are the result of collaborative work with other researchers, clinicians and industry partners. miblab.org acts as custodian of these resources and is committed to maintain them and keep them up to date.
All resources are interoperable and reusable in line with the principles of FAIR: our data include an API to download them; our trained models come with an API to run them on data; our pipelines download from our databases, and push results back. Core functionality that is shared between applications is grouped in stand-alone python packages.
We strive for these resources to be maximally user-friendly. Code comes with documentation, examples and links to use cases. Data have metadata and clear READMEs. Pipelines are illustrated with notebooks. We use the miblab zenodo community as a permanent archive for all our resoruces, and miblab.org as a front-end to make them findable and show how they are connected.
Licensing
miblab is rooted in public-private partnerships and recognises that efficient research, development and deployment of medical imaging biomarkers benefits from frictionless collaboration between sectors.
miblab’s licensing approach reflects this principle and allows users to share and adapt its resources with minimal restrictions, including for commercial use:
All miblab software is distributed under the Apache 2.0 license.
All miblab data are distributed under the CC-BY license.
